One Giant Leap for Mankind
It was another exciting day for Apple this past Monday as the world watched and waited for Steve Jobs' keynote speech at the 2008 Worldwide Developers Conference. As anticipated, Apple announced that they will be releasing the next-generation of the iPhone on July 11th, which will help bring some necessary flexibility and functionality to this appealing product offering.
Some of the highlights of the presentation included the unveiling of the following details:
- The iPhone 3G will be available in 22 countries, with a base price of just $199.
- 3G data transfer rates are nearly 3 times faster than the current EDGE service.
- .Mac is being transitioned to the new MobileMe service.
- GPS capabilities for accurate positioning, enabling the best mobile map application to-date.
- ActiceSync will allow enterprise-level data sharing with Exchange server, making the iPhone a more business-class solution.
- The iPhone SDK (Developer Kit) will finally be released, allowing 3rd party companies the ability to create applications native to the iPhone.
