With 195,000 power outages reported in Metro Detroit and over 109,000 in Oakland County alone, we wanted to take a quick moment to offer some advice to our customers.
During storms and power outages, please remember to unplug electronic devices such as computers and televisions. If you don't, it could just mean more business for us! While it may seem silly for us to be making suggestions that send away business, it is certainly in the best interest of our customers. Here's how we can help...
Often times during storms, lightening strikes and sudden loss of power can cause problems with your computer or other peripherals. It can damage hardware as well as potentially corrupt software. If you do experience a power loss, it is recommended you unplug your electronic devices from the wall. Sometimes when power is resumed, it can be inconsistent and cause surges that could also damage your hardware or software.
What preventative measures are available? Having a battery backup on your computer can help immensely. APC offers inexpensive battery backup units that help prevent against surges, offer insurance for equipment damage, and will power your computer down properly in the event of an extended power outage.
